Inauguration Week Brings Light Legislative Schedule
Posted January 16, 2017 by Ryan Donovan

This will be a short week legislatively, as only the Senate will be in session.  The Senate is expected to consider H.R.72, the GAO Access and Oversight Act.  Beyond that almost all of the attention this week will focus on the inauguration ceremonies which will take place on Friday, and the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next.

Committee Hearings

This week's hearings are dominated with confirmation hearings in advance of the inauguration.  However, there is one non-confirmation hearing that we are following closely.  On Thursday, the Senate Homeland Security and Government Oversight Committee's Regulatory Affairs and Federal Management Subcommittee will hold a hearing on "Improving Small Business Input on Federal Regulations: Ideas for Congress and a New Administration.”  CUNA will submit a statement for the record of this hearing.

Here is a rundown of all of the hearings this week:

Tuesday

  • The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a full committee hearing on the nomination of Rep. Ryan Zinke, R-MT, to be Interior secretary.
  • The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a full committee hearing on the nomination of Betsy DeVos to be Education secretary.
