On Tuesday, the Senate Finance Committee held a hearing entitled, “Comprehensive Tax Reform: Prospects and Challenges.”

During the hearing Senators and panel members discussed ideas and suggestions on ways to proceed with comprehensive tax reform.  The panel included four former Assistant Secretaries of Tax Policy at the United States Department of Treasury:

  • The Honorable Jonathan Talisman
Former Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy from 2000-2001

  • The Honorable Pamela Olson
Former Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy from 2002-2004

  • The Honorable Eric Solomon
Former Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy from 2006-2009

  • The Honorable Mark Mazur
Former Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy from 2012-2017

Prior to the hearing, CUNA set a letter to Chairman Hatch and Ranking Member Wyden highlighting the importance of credit unions and urging the Committee to keep the credit union tax status out of any tax reform conversations.  As the Committee and Congress continue the important work of comprehensive tax reform, CUNA will continue its advocacy work on behalf of America’s credit unions and their 110 million members.
