Senior $afe Reintroduced in the Senate
Posted January 25, 2017 by ManojBhoi

Yesterday Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced S. 223, the Senior $afe Act of 2017.  Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) is once again the Democratic lead.  Other original cosponsors include Senators Isakson, Casey, Tillis, Klobuchar, Wicker, Shaheen, Capito, Tester, Barrasso, Donnelly, Heller, King and Kaine.

This legislation would provide important legal protections to credit union employees who report suspected financial elder abuse.  Last Congress, Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Congressman Bruce Poliquin (R-ME) led the efforts in the House.  While the bill passed the House, it hit a snag in the Senate during the final days of the 114th Congress.  A link to CUNA’s support letter can be found here: https://www.cuna.org/Legislative-And-Regulatory-Advocacy/Legislative-Advocacy/Letters-and-Testimony/Letters/2017/Senior_Safe_Letter__20170123/
