The Week Ahead in Washington - November 18, 2019

ON THE FLOOR 

This week, both the House and Senate will consider legislation to fund government operations beyond November 21st, the date when the government runs out of spending authority.  The House is expected to act first with legislation extending that authority until December 20, 2019.  In addition, the House will vote on H.R. 1309, the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act.  Finally, the Senate will consider several judicial nominations. 

Also, the House will consider the following bills under suspension of the rules: 

1.H.R. 3702 – Reforming Disaster Recovery Act of 2019, as amended (Rep. Green (TX) – Financial Services) 

2.H.R. 4300 – Fostering Stable Housing Opportunities Act of 2019, as amended (Rep. Dean – Financial Services) 

3.H.R. 4029 – Tribal Access to Homeless Assistance Act, as amended (Rep. Heck – Financial Services) 

4.H.R. 5084 – Improving Corporate Governance through Diversity Act of 2019 (Rep. Meeks – Financial Services) 

5.H.R. 4344 – Investor Protection and Capital Markets Fairness Act, as amended (Rep. McAdams – Financial Services) 

6.H.R. 4634 – Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2019, as amended (Rep. Waters – Financial Services) 


IN COMMITTEE 

Tuesday 

The House Committee on Financial Services will hold a hearing: “America for Sale? An Examination of the Practices of Private Funds.” 

Wednesday 

The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing as well as a markup of 

S. 2877, the “Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2019.”  Following the markup, the hearing will focus on the nominations of Mr. Mitchell A. Silk, of New York, to be an Assistant Secretary of the Treasury; The Honorable Brian D. Montgomery, of Texas, to be Deputy Secretary of Housing and Urban Development; Mr. David C. Woll, Jr., of Connecticut, to be an Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development; Mr. John Bobbitt, of Texas, to be an Assistant Secretary of Housing and Urban Development; and Mr. Peter J. Coniglio, of Virginia, to be Inspector General, Export-Import Bank. 

The House Committee on Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions will hold a hearing: “An Examination of Regulators' Efforts to Preserve and Promote Minority Depository Institutions.” 

The House Committee on Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance will hold a hearing: “Safe and Decent? Examining the Current State of Residents' Health and Safety in HUD Housing.” 

Thursday 

The House Committee on Financial Services Task Force on Financial Technology will hold a hearing: “Banking on Your Data: the Role of Big Data in Financial Services.”
