The Week Ahead in Washington - October 16, 2017
Posted October 16,2017 by CUNA Advocacy

This week the Senate is in session with the House of Representatives going back to their home districts for the week.  The Senate will be busy considering the Senate Budget Committee-passed Budget Resolution for Fiscal Year 2018.  This budget resolution is necessary for the Congress to move forward on tax reform.  We expect a “vote-rama” when the resolution is debated on the floor as many amendments will likely be considered.

On the Floor

  • The Senate will consider Administration nominees:
    • Callista Gingrich for Ambassador of the United States of America to the Holy See
    • David Joel Trachtenberg to be a Principal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense.

  • We expect a dearth of Senate Committee action with the exception of the restarting of the Appropriations process as Chairman Thad Cochran returns to the Committee after receiving medical treatment.

In Committee

TUESDAY

  • The Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on: "Consumer Data Security and the Credit Bureaus.”
