Writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper is a great way to share your voice and insights with your community. Use the below templates as a starting point, filling in with details based on your organization's current operations. While the individual submission guidelines for a letter to the editor vary by outlet, most are limited to below 175 words and require a signature from a local community member.
If CUNA's strategic communications team can support any of your COVID-19 messaging efforts, please contact Stephen Fitzmaurice at email@example.com.
Headline: XXX CU is open for business, and we're here for you
The spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has us all feeling worried and a little uncertain, whether it's how long we'll need to social distance or what our community will look like once it's passed. But one thing this community can count on is XXXX Credit Union.
We know that you still need to take care of your loved ones. You need to put food on the table, to keep electricity running, to pay other bills and expenses as they come up.
That's where we come in for our members. Your deposits are safe here, and we're open for business, whether you need to use the ATM or talk to us personally about how we can help you get through this situation.
It's what we were founded to do, what we're doing now, and what we'll continue to do. Contact us online or via phone and let us know how we can help.
Headline: Your accounts and deposits are safe, cash isn't
There's no getting around that these are scary time. Social media and the news continue to remind us that certain supplies can be in short demand. But don't let that uncertainty extend to your money. In fact, your money is safer in your credit union than in your pocket, under the mattress, or in a shoebox.
Your deposits continue to be insured with the full faith and credit of the United States Government. And debit cards, credit cards, electronic transfers will continue to work as we overcome COVID-19.
Your accounts are not at risk, but a large pile of cash you think is needed is nothing but a risk. No one will replace that cash if it's misplaced or stolen, but your payment cards can be cancelled and replaced with a few mouse clicks.
We know there's a lot on your mind these days, but XXXX Credit Union is working hard to make sure the safety and security of your money isn't one of them.
Headline: Changes at XXXX CU allow members to get services safely
The news concerning the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is scary, but it shouldn't bring every aspect of your life to a halt. The experts have given their suggestions for “flattening the curve” of COVID-19 cases, most notably social distancing.
At XXXX Credit Union, we've taken steps to ensure you can access your finances as needed, with a few extra precautions.
ATMs can be cleaned regularly and allow our members to get cash they need without exposing themselves to additional risks. We're taking steps to make sure they're sanitized, which combined with the CDC's recommendations on hand washing, should keep members safe.
Our drive-throughs are also open, ready to help with any services you might need while you're able to remain in your vehicle.
We're getting through this pandemic together, and we've taken steps to keep our members safe while obtaining the financial services they need.
Headline: During time apart, online services can keep you up to date
As we all get intimately familiar with the term “social distancing” on the advice of experts, know that XXXX Credit Union has many opportunities for you to access funds and other financial services without going out in public.
Our online banking portal gives you an at-a-glance look at your account information, and also contains links to financial services you might need or want as the situation continues.
Our app also contains the full range of services and information you might need.
Both also contain our contact information where you can reach our staff who will personally get you the information you need. Our staff is ready, willing and able to get you through this time with all the tools at our disposal.
Being apart from one another can help us combat this pandemic, but it doesn't mean you're cut off from your credit union.
Headline: Remain vigilant as COVID-19 brings out the scammers
Along with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) have come the usual scammers looking to take advantage of people in a vulnerable spot. At XXX Credit Union, we're remaining vigilant in spotting scams that we see, and our members need to be careful to do the same.
It's vitally important, as your mind may be filled with other thoughts, to make sure your data and account information remain safe.
At XXXXX Credit Union, no one will call you demanding account information or immediate payments on anything. The same goes for the government, or anyone claiming to be from a government agency.
No legitimate party will require an account number, PIN, wire transfer or any other bit of personal information to conduct a transaction over the phone. That includes for any potential government payments coming down the road.
The same caution should be extended to emails and text messages offering services and resources: if the sender seems fishy, don't click any links.
Keeping yourself safe during this pandemic means watching your financial health as well. Be aware and protect your data.
Headline: XXXX Credit Union is here for members, whatever the need
Times are a little bit scary right now, as the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has changed much, if not all, of our day-to-day lives for the time being. With such massive disruptions can come financial consequences, as businesses are changing operations or closing, while bills and other expenses aren't going away anytime soon.
At XXXX Credit Union, we're here for our members in whatever form they need. You're a member and part of our community, so we want to do whatever we can to help.
Missing a paycheck but need to buy food or pay bills? We can work with you to bridge that gap. We can work on ways to modify your existing loan, get you funds at a safe and affordable rate, or meet other needs as they arise.
Our team is standing by the way we would in any other time of hardship: ready to listen, ready to help and ready to put XXXXX Credit Union to work for its members.
