Learn More about Member Benefits
Speaker: Ross Bernstein
The best-selling author of nearly 50 sports books, Ross Bernstein is an award-winning peak performance hall of fame business speaker who's keynoted conferences for Fortune 500 companies on all seven continents and has been featured on CNN, ESPN, Fox News, and “CBS This Morning,” as well as in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times and USA Today.
Ross' program is all about the DNA of what makes champions in sports so unique and how that relates to business. It's based on a series of books he wrote in which he was able to interview more than 1,000 professional athletes and coaches that all had one thing in common - they were all members of championship teams. In his research he concluded that the same metrics and characteristics that were common among champions in sports, were also common among peak performers in business. Ross weaves sports stories, about the DNA of champions, along with stories of companies who he has worked with around the world - and shares best practice ideas on ways to overcome disruption, while ultimately building stronger relationships. At the core of his message is the simple fact that we like to do business with people who we trust, who we like, and who just “get it” - CHAMPIONS.
In an engaging, provocative, and visually entertaining style, Ross will use inspirational stories and poignant life lessons from the world of sports to show us how to create a “culture of excellence” by giving extraordinary member service and being better leaders to create more “buy-in” by embracing change. Ross' message will inspire us to motivate ourselves as collectors and our collection teams in building meaningful relationships with our members and colleagues.

Although the law creating the automatic stay has not changed in many years, court decisions continue to affect the way the law is implied.
An important U.S. Supreme Court decision may significantly change the answer to the question “If I repossessed a vehicle before the member filed bankruptcy, do I have to give it back after the member filed?” The same decision may have an effect on other automatic stay-related questions. During this session, Eric will talk about what the court said, what it didn't say, and how it may change how your credit union acts in a bankruptcy case. Time permitting, Eric will also field general questions about the automatic stay.
Speaker: David Reed

So you didn't get a reaffirmation. Maybe you tried and the debtor refused. Maybe it wasn't worth the effort. Maybe you've given up trying. For whatever reason, your loan has been discharged in Chapter 7 and the debtor still has your collateral. Maybe he's paying, maybe he's not. What steps should your credit union take to avoid making mistakes while protecting your interests?
Speaker: Harry Strausser
The secret to collections has always been, and will always be, the direct connection of a collection representative to the delinquent member. There is no better opportunity to assist a member than having a good conversation. The collections industry has relied heavily on mailings via the USPS and manually initiating phone calls to the member's landline and cell phone. Times are changing and so are the technologies available to help us determine the best method of outreach.
There are multiple channels of communication embraced by today's consumer/member. We have a lot of choices. Omni Channel communication refers to the development of communication strategies based on the individual preference of each member. It often incorporates a variety of approaches on differing platforms.
During this session, participants will have the opportunity to participate in some polls to benchmark what others are using and will leave this program with a better understanding of the opportunities available to their department including:
The only thing more daunting than the recent past is the near future! Planning for future delinquency, bankruptcies, foreclosures and loss recovery efforts in today's uncertain world might be a fool's errand, but we have to try. We will delve into what the experts are saying about the pandemic and the economic and political landscape and how that will affect our jobs as credit union collectors.
Christy's crystal ball reading will include:
Although the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act does not directly govern credit unions, several recent developments may have an important effect on how you do business. Attend this session to learn about new CFPB regulations, as well as about an important Circuit Court of Appeal decision.
