Taking and managing risk is core to a credit union successfully fulfilling its mission. In fact, some have said that it is those that are best able to leverage risk that continuously rise to the top. In that case, how much risk is your credit union willing to take… and where… and most importantly, why? Remember, even if your credit union doesn't have a formalized risk appetite statement, you are making decisions as if you did.
Join us as we explore the necessity and nuance of not only creating, but leveraging, risk appetite statements at your credit union.
Speaker: John Gallagher
During this session, we will discuss the recent changes made to the Institute of Internal Auditor's (IIA) Three Lines of Defense Model. Now simply referred to the “Three Lines”, the model has been revised to address the increasing level of complexity and uncertainly within the environment. The insights provided will assist all stakeholders (risk managers, internal auditors, and those who govern the credit union) in understanding how they can best achieve organizational objectives and facilitate strong governance.
Speakers: Cloudette Heichel and Kaelyn Lewis
During this session Cloudette Heichel, corporate counsel contracting and vendor management for AlaskaUSA FCU and Kaelyn Lewis, risk consultant for Rochdale Paragon, will discuss and share considerations of what is Just Right for credit union's size and growth regarding vendor management. Just as in the fairy tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Goldilocks had three choices from porridge that is too hot, too cold or just right or chairs that were too big to just right. A vendor management program can be too complex, not complex enough or just right! How do you know what is just right? The content of this session will break down the asset milestones of $3billion and less, $6 billion, and $10 billion into manageable goals. Topics will range from traditional risk, staffing models, efficiencies in technology, CUSOs, scope of vendor management at different asset sizes, additional regulatory scrutiny, and more.
Panel: Alysse Medina, LaKeisha Moore, TBA and TBA
Credit unions are hearing more and more about the need for systems… risk management systems, compliance systems, vendor management systems. Join this panel of credit union risk and compliance professionals as they discuss their experience in making decisions around and implementing these various “systems” and lessons learned through the process.
