Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi once said, “Either you're fired with enthusiasm or you'll be fired with enthusiasm”. Got someone on your team not “fired up” but know they have the potential to be a “superstar”? A negative employee can literally infect the rest of your team. It's time to either manage them up or out. Complete with numerous strategies and sample performance plan standards, this session can help you craft a plan that forces your troubled employee to choose their own path and either turn into the superstar you know they can be or move on to another organization. Either way, problem solved.

Developing a job description and getting the budget approval for a new position is just the beginning of the staffing adventure. Unfortunately, today's litigious society has made the process of hiring new staff as easy as swimming across a pool filled with alligators. This session will review the significant legal issues you will face as you advertise, recruit, hire and bring on board new staff members.

Salary and benefits comprise the majority of your employee compensation cost and accounts for a significant element of employee recruitment and retention. But behind the numbers and innovative offerings lies a myriad of detailed compliance requirements. This session will take a deeper dive into common mistakes and misunderstandings in the area of compensation and benefits and provide safe passage to HR compliance.
Interactivity: Discussion, questions and answers.
Perfect for the HR professional in charge of recruiting and hiring, this session discusses interviewing techniques that can help you learn all you need to know about a new employee before making the initial hire. While a resume can tell you much about a person's skills and experience, it's important to note that a resume is really just a personal advertisement being presented by a salesperson selling themselves. So, how can you really find out about the person you're interviewing? From identifying resume “red flags”, to sample interview questions designed to find concrete work ethic examples, to ideas for “auditions” you can ask for upfront, this session is full of the tools to help you make the right hire the first time.
Interactive Component: Students will generate and evaluate effectiveness of interview exercises for their open positions.
Most employers have handbooks, but when is the last time it was carefully reviewed? Handbooks are living documents that must remain current with the law and your business practices. Handbooks are not one-size fits all and must be tailored to fit your credit union's unique circumstances. In this session, you will learn what policies should be eliminated from your handbook and how to draft and implement policies to help you avoid claims and liability.
Interactive Component: Bring your current employee handbook with you to this session to review along the way.
