Proctored Exam Procedures

Proctored Exam Information COVID-19 Update

To support the need for proctored exams at this time, remote proctored exams have been approved by the American Council on Education, CUNA's accreditor.  In addition, CUNA has connected with ProctorU, a leading proctoring solution for online exams that allows students the flexibility of testing 24/7. For more information, read our Guidelines for Remote Proctoring  and this document of Frequently Asked Questions about Proctored Exams.

Choosing a Proctor
Students are required to arrange for their own proctors and test locations, whether this be remote or in person and submit the  Proctored Exam Request Form to CUNA 4 weeks in advance of anticipated exam date to allow for processing time. The normal rush fee for exams requested in less than the four-week turnaround time is currently being waived due to COVID-19.

All exams may be ordered at one time (CCUFC and CUCE) as long as you have made the appropriate arrangements with your proctor.

CUNA recommends students select our partner vendor,   ProctorU Logoto provide remote proctoring services for CUNA's designation exams, which allows students the flexibility to schedule exams 24/7. Below is the high-level process for choosing ProctorU and for choosing your own proctor.

Choose ProctorU +
  • Exam taker to submit  Proctored Exam Request Form to CUNA 4 weeks in advance of anticipated exam date, indicating ProctorU for chosen proctoring service.
  • Upon receipt of email, exam taker can then schedule the exam directly with ProctorU for any time that is convenient.
  • To make the most out of your experience, please ensure that each computer on which you plan to take online exams meets the System Requirements for the online exam proctoring system as well as the ProctorU System Requirements below. You should also perform the ProctorU equipment pre-test (instructions included in email sent to exam taker).
  • ProctorU System Requirements:
    • High speed internet connection
    • Webcam (internal or external)
    • Windows or Apple operating system
    • Government-issued photo ID
    • Current Version of Chrome or Firefox to download ProctorU specific extension
  • Upon completion of exam on CUNA's online proctoring system, results will be posted to students' transcript within 48 hours.
  • For more information, please reference our FAQs

ProctorU Fees:

  • ProctorU will allow learners to test at their convenience, 24/7.
  • When employees choose their own proctor in a face-to-face environment, CU's typically need to pay the employees for their time from the moment they leave the CU until they return, which includes paying for drive time and reimbursing mileage.  ProctorU eliminates both of these costs.
  • The proctor fees will be $20 for first hour, an additional $10 if a second hour is needed.
    • Premium Scheduling Fees (3 days' + notice - no additional charge):
      • If scheduling 72-24 hours in advance, an extra $8.
      • If scheduling less than 24 hours in advance, an extra $12.
    • If an exam taker misses the scheduled exam or cancels within 24 hours of scheduled start time, there is no refund for the proctor fee.
    • If an exam taker fails the exam, they must request a retake exam as soon as possible by completing the Proctored Exam Request Form at least four weeks in advance of the testing and indicate on the form that this is an exam retake. The credit union will then be invoiced $50 per exam retake.  Upon email confirmation from CUNA for the retake exam, the exam taker will then need to reschedule another session with ProctorU and pay the associated proctor fee (exams cannot be retaken immediately after failing with ProctorU).
    • Exam takers pay for the proctor fee with a credit card when scheduling with ProctorU. All fees associated with ProctorU testing are the responsibility of the student.
Choose your own Proctor +

After Exam taker has made arrangements for a proctor, submit   Proctored Exam Request Form to CUNA 4 weeks in advance of anticipated exam date indicating Choose your own proctor for chosen proctoring service and provide relevant proctor details, including email.

Students are required to arrange for their own proctors and test locations. During your conversation with prospective proctors, be sure to let them know you are allotted two hours to complete the exam.

An acceptable proctor may be:

  • Directors, coordinators, or their representatives at a university or junior college in the counseling or educational services department
  • Registrars, deans, or professors at a university or junior college
  • High school principals or counselors
  • Certified librarians in a supervisory position
  • Local directors of educational services
  • A designated representative from your credit union league office

Your proctor CANNOT be someone from a credit union or a relative or spouse and must be a disinterested third party.

  • CUNA will send confirmation emails with necessary credentials to both exam taker and proctor approximately two weeks prior to exam date.
  • One week prior to the exam, we recommend that you contact your proctor to ensure proctor has received exam email information for the correct exam.  If problems or questions arise, call CUNA immediately at 800-356-9655 opt. 3.
  • To make the most out of your experience, please ensure that each computer on which you plan to take online exams meets these System Requirements for the online exam proctoring system.
  • Please review the updated Guidelines for Remote Proctoring for further details and requirements about remotely proctored exams. Note: As recently announced, we have approval from the American Council of Education (ACE) to allow a remote proctor to monitor up to six students at one time instead of two.
  • For more information, please reference our FAQs
  • Upon completion of exam on CUNA's online proctoring system, results will be posted to students' transcript within 48 hours.

Choose Your Own Proctor Fees:

  • All fees associated with choose your own proctor and testing are the responsibility of the student. Be sure to consult with the proctor and testing facility in advance about the fees.
  • If an exam taker fails the exam, the student may immediately retake the exam (if mutually agreed upon with the proctor).  Please note that it is not recommended that students retake the exam multiple times upon failing (initial take and one retake would be acceptable). Instead, it's advised that students reschedule the exam retake for another time and take the opportunity to study the material again, prior to retesting.

OR

The student must request a retake exam as soon as possible by completing the  Proctored Exam Request Form at least four weeks in advance of the testing and indicate on the form that this is an exam retake.  The credit union will then be invoiced $50 per exam retake.

Ordering Additional Exams (CCUFC)

IMPORTANT: FiCEP Part 1 and Part 2 exams need to be completed before 12/31/20 because a new 5th Edition FiCEP Book & exam will be released in January 2021.

If you are sharing the 4th Edition FiCEP Part 1 and/or Part 2 modules, one person will receive one complimentary exam code with each set of purchased modules. The others will leave the Comp Code field blank on the Proctored Exam Request Form, and the credit union will be invoiced $50 per exam. For instance, if one person purchases the 4th Edition FiCEP Part 1 Kit (this kit includes a set of Part 1 modules 1-4), that person receives a complimentary exam code for the 4th Edition Part 1 exam. The next person who reads the modules without purchasing will leave the Comp Code field blank on the Proctored Exam Request Form, and the credit union will be invoiced $50 for the FiCEP Part 1 exam.
