National Credit Union Youth Month serves to encourage kids to develop healthy saving habits by making savings fun and exciting. This campaign is your credit union's opportunity to engage with young members and show them that your credit union is there to help them throughout their financial journey.
Given the growing concerns surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19), we encourage you to take advantage of digital resources to celebrate Youth Month virtually and on your own timeline. This year, we're looking forward to highlighting the importance of financial education for young ones. While everyone might choose to move forward differently, we support credit unions in their decision to extend, postpone or reschedule their Youth Month celebrations.
“Money Magic! Share, Spend and Save at Your Credit Union” is the official theme for this year's National Credit Union Youth Month.
This whimsical theme makes it fun for kids to save for their future and helps them find joy in setting aside a little money for everyday spending and helping others. This year's imagery centers on five kid-friendly characters:
With the conclusion of the National Youth Savings Challenge™, CUNA has randomly selected Expree CU of Kentucky to receive $1,000 to be awarded as ten (10) $100 prizes to 10 young savers for participating in the Saving Challenge. This year, 12,103 youth, representing 100 credit unions, were motivated to save for their futures. Young members deposited an average of $231.84 per child, and 160 new youth accounts were opened. A total of $2,805,990 was deposited into savings accounts and CDs as a result of this challenge - that's Money Magic!
Youth Month-themed promotional materials and merchandise is available in the CUNA Member Celebrations Store, so you can build hype and energize your celebration. Use these items to engage young members, incentivize participation and spread the word about the importance of saving.
Don't forget to spread awareness of your Youth Month festivities to help promote the power of credit unions. Use the Twitter hashtag #CUYouthMonth to highlight your credit union's story, elevate the movement and explore how others have celebrated.
