Who Should Attend

This eSchool is beneficial for compliance and marketing staff, for small credit unions, CEOs and operations.

Session 1, July 14, 2020: Telephone Consumer Protection Act

Thinking about marketing to or communicating with your members by telephone and/or text message? If so, you won’t want to miss this webinar. The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) continues to be the subject of thousands of lawsuits due to the various interpretations of its provisions. In this session, you will learn more about the TCPA provisions, Federal Communication Commission Orders, recent court decisions and congressional actions, and how to avoid being the next defendant in a TCPA lawsuit.

Attendees in this session will learn the following:

  • What the TCPA requires
  • How the FCC Orders interpret the TCPA provisions
  • Obtaining the proper consent to contact members by telephone and/or text message
  • Proper revocation of consent
  • How various courts interpret the TCPA and FCC Orders
  • The new Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act

Session 2, July 21, 2020: Social Media Compliance

Social media is a vital element of every credit union marketing strategy. But while most laws and regulations have not effectively kept up with ever changing technology, the laws and regulations that apply to marketing and advertising apply equally to social media. Learn how to avoid compliance risk using social media to promote your credit union’s products and services, as well as how to effectively communicate with your members without triggering compliance deficiencies.

Attendees in this session will learn the following:

  • The regulations that apply to social media
  • Record retention requirements
  • Potential consequences for noncompliance
  • Common mistakes
  • Regulatory agency recommendations

Session 3, July 28, 2020: Website Compliance

Your credit union website is used to promote your products, services, location, community involvement and benefits of membership. However, your site can also expose your credit union to potential regulatory action and litigation. Marketing staff are generally in charge of managing the content of the credit union website. However, compliance needs to be factored into the equation and maintenance of your credit union’s website to avoid negative consequences.

Attendees in this session will learn the following:

  • Various marketing regulations (e.g., deposits, loan products, share insurance, etc.)
  • Common mistakes
  • Fair lending red flags
  • Avoiding Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices (UDAAP) violations
  • Avoiding Americans with Disabilities (ADA) lawsuits
