Credit unions must protect the financial privacy of their members and are required to limit sharing nonpublic personal information with third parties. In this session, we’ll review the rules of information sharing and discuss the notices required regarding how the credit union shares information and with whom. The session will also address when the credit union is required to provide members with the right to opt out of information sharing.

Regulations/Laws covered:

  • Graham/Leach Bliley Act
  • Regulation P, Privacy of Consumer Financial Information

Learning objectives:

  • Understand what is considered nonpublic personal information
  • Learn when credit unions can share information without providing an opt out and when the credit union is required to allow members to prohibit sharing of their nonpublic personal information
  • Review the privacy notice required to be provided at account opening
