CUNA Attends Small Business Committee Roundtable
Posted May 17, 2016 by CUNA Advocacy

Today, CUNA representatives attended a small business roundtable discussion held by the Democratic members of the Small Business Committee on the lending issues facing small business.  The roundtable was designed to facilitate discussions between industry leaders and Democratic members on the committee in an informal setting.

When considering issues surrounding small businesses and job growth, we encouraged the Members to support H.R. 1188, the "Credit Union Small Business Job Creation Act."  This bill  would permit credit unions to more fully meet the credit needs of America’s small businesses by increasing the statutory credit union member business lending (MBL) cap to 27.5 percent.

Credit unions across the country want to be a greater resource to help consumers and our members stand ready to support small businesses with increased access to capital. In order to do so, Congress needs to remove the arbitrary barriers that severely restrict the ability of credit unions to provide loans to small businesses.
