Data Security Legislation Progresses in Connecticut, Illinois and Oregon

Recently, a data security measure, S 1833, was sent to the governor in Illinois. The bill requires attorney general notification of breaches and the posting of privacy policies. In Connecticut, S 949, which requires mitigation services to individuals who are victims of data breach, was also sent to the governor for signature. In Oregon, S 601 was enacted. It expands the definition of personal information and notification requirements. Earlier this session data security legislation was enacted in Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Washington and Wyoming.
