Joint Trades Letter to Senate Leadership on Data Security and Cyber Security Legislation
Posted June 10,2015 by CUNA Advocacy

CUNA and other financial services trade associations joined in a letter to Senate leadership urging support for an amendment added to a house bill which contains the text of S. 754, the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act. The bill, better known as CISA, was recently approved by a nearly unanimous show of support by the Select Committee on Intelligence. The letter also urged further action by the Senate on the issue of data security especially for the passage of S. 961, the Data Security Act of 2015.

The CISA bill was attached to the FY 2016 Defense Authorization Act, but that bill failed to get the needed 60 votes so that it could pass the Senate, then ultimately to the President’s desk for signing.  Majority Leader McConnell and a group of bi-partisan Senators have vowed to see passage of the CISA legislation by year end.  Senate floor time is extremely tight, but with McConnell’s commitment to the legislation odds are that it will see action, most likely in the fall.
