President Trump to Nominate New Attorney General
Posted December 07, 2018 by CUNA Advocacy

President Trump is expected to nominate William P. Barr to be the next Attorney General of the United States.  If confirmed, Mr. Barr would become the head of the Department of Justice (DOJ) and fill a role left vacant upon the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions on November 7, 2018.

The DOJ is the federal department with rulemaking jurisdiction over the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  CUNA and the state leagues have been working with both Congress and the Administration to address ADA website accessibility standards, the nonexistence of which have led to frivolous lawsuits filed against credit unions.  As part of these efforts, credit unions have sought clarification from DOJ on what is required for websites and online banking software under the ADA.

Mr. Barr previously served as the Attorney General under President George H. W. Bush from 1991 to 1993.
