The Week Ahead in Washington - May 14, 2018

ON THE FLOOR 

This week, both chambers of Congress will be in session.  The House will consider H.R. 5698, the Protect and Serve Act of 2018; S. 2372, the VA MISSION Act of 2018; and H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018. 

The Senate is expected to continue its consideration of judicial nominations. 

IN COMMITTEE 

Tuesday 

  • The Senate Banking Committee will meet to vote on advancing nominees for HUD, Commerce, and the FTA, and receive testimony from Federal Reserve nominees Richard Clarida and Michelle Bowman. 
  • The Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee will hold a hearing: “The State of Small Business in America: An Update from the U.S. Small Business Administration” 

Wednesday 

  • The House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Securities, and Investment Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “Oversight of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement.” 
  • The House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Terrorism and Illicit Finance Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “Implementation of FinCEN’s Customer Due Diligence Rule.” 
  • The House Committee on Ways and Means will hold a hearing: ”Series on Tax Reform: Growing Our Economy and Creating Jobs” 
  • The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing: “Cambridge Analytica and the Future of Data Privacy.” 

Thursday

  • The House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will hold a hearing entitled “Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery Program – Stakeholder Perspectives.” 
  • The House Financial Services Committee Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “An Overview of homelessness in America.” 
  • The House Committee on Education and the Workforce will hold a hearing: “Protecting Privacy, Promoting Data Security: Exploring How Schools and States Keep Data Safe.”
