As with all things regarding effective communication, understanding the various parties to the conversation allows the message to be presented in a manner that is easier to digest and interpret. This is the same way with ERM. It’s critical to understand the various audiences and stakeholders involved with your ERM program. Many talk about the challenges of gaining the attention of executives, yet few ever stop and ask executives what they care about and hope to get from the ERM program. Join us to learn key ideas around what’s most important to executives and board members, as well as identify strategies to communicate in a manner that gets heard.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn the importance of speaking about risk from the stakeholder's perspective
  • Consider what is important to executives and board members and identify strategies to speak in a way that you get heard

It is no coincidence that as plaintiffs’ attorneys continue to creatively target additional banking practices, the CFPB also has been rapidly expanding upon its definition of UDAAP violations. The CFPB publicly stated that its actions do not preclude state enforcement efforts, laying the groundwork for states to aggressively pursue violations of federal law even absent the CFPB’s coordination. This session will discuss how recent developments impact your credit union’s risk and compliance functions.

You will learn about:

  • Recent developments and trends in litigation and CFPB supervisory and enforcement actions under its UDAAP authority;
  • The “state” of state supervisory and enforcement authority with regard to unfair and deceptive acts and practices and federal consumer protection laws; and
  • Why your credit union should monitor and evaluate how these trends and developments impact the banking industry and your credit union.

Are you confident your models provide you with reliable information so you can make your most important decisions? You can’t afford not to be. Model Risk Management (MRM) sets the framework for optimal model performance.

In a recent survey of credit union leaders, MRM was cited by respondents as the single most “eye-opening” topic they’d been introduced to in the last year. However, as credit unions approach MRM, many don’t even know where to start.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand how to develop a model definition, inventory, and risk rating process.
  • Learn what goes into an MRM policy and how that governs your program.
  • Walk through how to implement and “right size” your MRM program.
  • Discover the importance of making MRM part of your credit union’s culture.
