Garick Zillgitt
Garick is VP and Western Region Leader for the primary E&S Casualty business written by Ambridge Insurance Solutions West. Ambridge is a subsidiary of Brit Global and underwrites business for Lloyds of London Syndicate 2987.
Garick started his career in 1982 as a reinsurance underwriter for General Reinsurance Corp. Working out of Kansas City, Los Angeles, and New York during his first 10 years in the business reinsuring (insurance of insurance) insurance companies for individual risks they wrote which posed too much volatility for the company to 100% assume on their balance sheet. In 1992 Garick was asked to move to London to develop and grow the individual risk reinsurance business in Europe. Based in London, during the next 6 years, Garick and the team he led opened or expanded offices in London, Copenhagen, Paris, Cologne, Zurich, Milan, and Johannesburg and successfully grew the business profitably. The team reinsured insurers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa – writing various lines of insurance including Public Liability, Professional Liability, Environmental Liability, Directors & Officers, Products Recall, and Excess Casualty for large multinational corporations.
1998 Garick returned to the US to lead the Western States Specialty Treaty business and served as the Senior Underwriting Officer for the division, based in San Francisco.
In 2006, Garick moved to the reinsurance broking side of the business and joined Guy Carpenter to lead the new business origination team for the West Coast out of San Francisco.
In 2009, he moved back to the underwriting side, this time as an insurer, and joined Fireman’s Fund to be the VP of Casualty with profit and loss responsibility for all the Casualty business written by Fireman Fund – about $1 billion in premium.
Garick moved to Kansas City, MO to join Rockhill Insurance Co in late 2011 where he led business development, launched the creation of a new department to write Primary E&S Casualty and oversaw the Environmental and Surety business as SVP – Casualty.
In 2016, Garick and his family wanted to get back to the west coast and left Rockhill to join Swiss Re in San Francisco to underwrite E&S Casualty business as an underwriter and serve as the Western Region VP. Swiss Re shut down their E&S Casualty unit in the spring of 2019 prompting Garick’s move to Brit Insurance, and their US subsidiary Ambridge to underwrite hard to place US risks with their Lloyd’s syndicate.
Garick serves on the Board of Directors of Patelco Credit Union as First Vice-Chair. Garick has been on the Board of Patelco since 2006.
