Moisette “Tonya” Sweat
Tonya Sweat is the Managing Member of Sweatism Consulting LLC. She leads the daily operations of the consulting firm, providing legal and consulting services in the areas of Federal administrative and employment law and leadership development.
Tonya has over 22 years of experience as an attorney. As a civil servant, she managed the national consumer protection and fair lending functions in the Office of Consumer Protection with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). She was the key advisor to the NCUA Board and agency senior executives and staff, as well as the agency's principal representative within the Federal government, on consumer protection and fair lending matters. Tonya also managed the resolution of consumer complaints and served as the agency Ombudsman.
Before her tenure in the Office of Consumer Protection, Tonya was a Staff Attorney in the NCUA Office of General Counsel. She drafted regulations and interpreted the Federal law, and advised the NCUA Board and staff on legal matters.
Tonya also served in the United States Air Force Judge Advocate General's Corps for seven years. While a judge advocate, she prosecuted and defended cases under the Uniform Code of Military Justice and represented the Air Force and military members in administrative hearings. Tonya advised military and civilian leaders on matters including but not limited to government contracts, employment and personnel law, environmental law, torts, medical malpractice, and the Law of Armed Conflict. She also served on Armed Forces Inaugural Committee in support of the first inauguration of the 43rd President of the United States.
Tonya is a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science (Computer Science). She earned a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, and will soon have a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College. She also completed studies at the College of Southern Maryland. Tonya is licensed to practice law in the State of South Carolina and the District of Columbia and is a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court and other Federal appellate courts. She resides in Prince George's County, Maryland with her husband, their children, and a pet Chiweenee.
