Richard Sellwood

Richard Sellwood has spent 16 years in the credit union industry. Starting out as a part-time teller, Richard has served in leadership roles since 2008. He currently serves as SVP/Chief Operating Officer at USF Federal Credit Union, a $1.1 billion in assets credit union headquartered in Tampa, FL. Richard was a member of the CUNA YP Council from 2018 to 2021. Richard was also a member of the New York Credit Union Association’s (NYCUA), Young Professionals Commission from 2015 to 2019, serving as Chairperson from 2018 to 2019.

In 2019, Richard was named Young Professional of the Year at the NYCUA Annual Meeting and Convention. Richard was selected as an honoree of the 2020 Class of Forty under 40 by the Rochester Business Journal. Richard holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and an MBA from the Saunders College of Business at RIT. In August of 2023, he completed a Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law. 

Richard recently relocated from Rochester, NY to Tampa, FL with his wife and three children. He has a passion for mentoring young credit union professionals. He has served on panels and spoken at numerous credit union events. As he says, it’s his way of “paying it forward” and ensuring that the industry’s future is bright and enduring.
