CFPB Hosts Events on Debt Relief and Advisory Groups

The CFPB is hosting two events in Washington, D.C. next week:

Debt Relief Convening

On March 10, the CFPB will host a day-long convening on “Evolutions in Consumer Debt Relief.” The event will explore options for consumers facing unmanageable unsecured debt and limited credit options. Panelists include representation from creditors, consumer advocates, and bankruptcy experts, as well as providers of debt settlement, debt management, and credit counseling services.


In response to the public health concern surrounding the Coronavirus, CFPB-hosted events at 1700 G. St. for the week of March 9 – 13 will be virtual-only for attendees. Only CFPB staff and scheduled panelists will attend in person. Members of the public will be able be to view the event through virtual means, such as webcast.  Livestream for the Evolutions in Debt Relief Convening will be available here:

Spring 2020 CFPB Advisory Committee Meetings

On March 11 and 12, the CFPB will host its Spring 2020 meeting of the advisory committees, including the Credit Union Advisory Committee, to discuss broad policy matters related to the Bureau’s Unified Regulatory Agenda and general scope of authority.

Among the topics scheduled to be discussed are the following:

  • Small Business Lending Data Collection – Section 1071
  • Student Lending Market
  • Credit Access in Rural Communities
  • Elder Fraud Prevention and Response Networks
  • Consumer Authorized Access to Financial Records- Section 1033
  • Time-Barred Debt (NPRM)

The meeting will feature remarks from Bureau leadership, staff, and discussion with committee members.
